    1. Claim, reasons, evidence and assumptions.
    2. Counterarguments, responses and a defensible conclusion.
    3. Distinguish persuasive appeals from unsupported assertions.
  2. Prescribed-text analysis

    1. Read Alex Tabarrok's The Meat Market and Daniel Engber's Let them Drink Water!.
    2. Evaluate argument structure and the use of evidence.
    3. Develop an argument with clear support and fair treatment of opposing views.
