  1. Average-based trend methods

    1. Semi-average trend calculation.
    2. Moving averages and the choice of period.
    3. Centering when required by the averaging period.
  2. Least-squares trend

    1. Fit an appropriate linear trend with time coding.
    2. Interpret coefficients and estimated trend values.
    3. Compare fitted trend with observed fluctuations.
