Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) — First Year

Subject: Business Statistics (MGT 202)

Unit 13: Matrix

Academic Year: 2083/84

Topic Objectives

After studying this topic, students should be able to:

  • Explain the scope and key elements of matrix equation solutions.
  • Select suitable statistical procedures, carry out calculations and interpret business results.

Curriculum Scope

  • Simultaneous equations with up to three unknowns

Detailed Microsyllabus

  1. Matrix formulation of equations

    1. Write a system as a coefficient matrix times an unknown vector.
    2. Identify coefficient and constant matrices.
    3. Limit systems to up to three unknowns.
  2. Matrix solution

    1. Solve by the prescribed inverse-matrix method.
    2. Check whether the coefficient matrix is invertible.
    3. Verify calculated values in the original simultaneous equations.
